Subject: Recommendation Letter
I wanted to write a letter regarding my hunt with John Fasquel during October of 2011. First, I wanted to say that I think John is simply a great person. I do not usually give such glowing opinions quickly, but John is truly special and deserves very high marks.
The accommodations, the food, the helpfulness, the pleasant attitudes, the friendly advice and really every aspect of my hunt from a service point of view were just outstanding.
The lodge was very clean and John kept it clean at all times. The lodge was very comfortable. I am a very, very picky person when it comes to my sleeping accommodations and my mattress in particular. The chances are about 1 in 50 that I am going to like the mattress when I sleep anywhere away from home. But guess what. The mattress was great and I slept as well as I sleep in my own bed. We had satellite TV, running water, hot water, a shower and electric. John has named his camp “John’s Paradise” and it truly is.
John prepared us home cooked meals three times per day. All I can say is if you like home cooking then you will love your week at John’s Paradise. John is an excellent cook. The food was all delicious. He shared home made pickles, relishes, preserves and maple syrup from his own sugar bush. I enjoy eating and John kept me very satisfied 3 times per day every day. I did not have a bad meal the entire week. Not even one item of a single meal was less than great. We had roast turkey with stuffing and homemade cranberry preserves (to die for). We had prime rib. We had beef stew. We had ham steak and more. We never ate the same meal twice and always had more than we could eat. We had eggs, bacon, toast, biscuits, French toast, juice, coffee and home made blueberry preserves for breakfast. Lunch was very similar to dinner. It was very good, always something different and way too much to eat. John asked us if there were any special requests for our meals. The two us made no special requests, we simply sat back and enjoyed the meals John selected. If there was a negative to be mentioned from this trip it would be that I went home about 10 pounds heavier.
John was extremely helpful and very attentive to our every need. You can tell when someone truly enjoys what they are doing. I think John loves everything about his outfitting business. The country, the woods, the stands, the preparation, his paradise, the hunting, the guests, taking care of his guests and seeing the joy on a guest’s face when the guest is successful. When I killed my bear I was extremely excited and happy. I think John was just as excited as I was. I felt like I was sharing my hunt with a friend and a partner. Not some stranger who happened to be an outfitter and led me to an animal during my hunt. I like to think that John became my friend during this hunt. I hope to be able to call him my friend for the rest of my life. He is a very special person. My hunting partner and I have already booked our slot next year. This was supposed to be a once in a lifetime trip. Somehow John changed that mind set for myself and my hunting partner. To my surprise, I discovered that many (probably most) of John’s clients are repeat guests. Some of them for very long periods of time (like 10, 15 and 20 years). This is pretty unbelievable to me, but I think it speaks volumes about the kind of camp that John runs and the experience that guests are enjoying. John will accommodate at most 4 clients at a single time. He prefers to host only a couple of hunters at a time. I was especially lucky to be present with only 1 other person and that person was a non-hunter (my brother in law). This gave me the special opportunity to enjoy a lot of 1 on 1 attention with John. The Lord must love me.
John was very pleasant the entire week. Personally, I would probably be ready to hang most clients up on the pole out front after a couple days, but not John. All I can say is that he was extremely helpful in all possible ways. The few times I asked him for a favor, advice or really anything, he simply jumped on the request and gave me what I wanted. What I can say is that all requests were satisfied, happily, with a smile and instantly. My humble opinion is that John is a person who enjoys what he is doing with his life (I won’t call it a job). I think John is an extremely good person and we (my brother in law and I) came away from this hunt pretty much awe struck with John Fasquel as a person. He can be my buddy for as long as he wishes.
I had never killed a bear before. I have hunted deer virtually my entire life (46 years of hunting and counting). Bears are very different from deer. They are more nervous about their environment. They are extremely edgy. When it comes to odors and sounds a hunter must be about 10 times more committed when hunting bears versus deer. I needed a lot of coaching, a lot of advice and a lot of help to become a successful bear hunter. John does not force feed his advice. He will give his advice when asked and I begged. John freely shared his secrets and I was like a sponge. By the end of the week, I had been transformed from a deer hunter into a bear hunter. If you don’t think there is a difference then you should speak with John and have him explain the difference to you. John shared his tactics. He shared his baiting techniques. He shared his personal hunting experiences. Really he would share any of his experience that you requested. Many people view knowledge and experience as power. It is the secret ingredient that separates them from you. Quite often they do not want to just ‘give’ it away. John’s willingness to share knowledge is completely the opposite. He will freely give you any advice you ask for. I hope I have made it clear that I am pretty impressed with John Fasquel. When I returned from my hunt, I was naturally excited and I was sharing all my happy experiences with my wife. At some point in the conversation she asked me if John slept at the lodge with us and how much of the day was he present. Her expectation was that John would just let us sleep at the lodge alone. That we would somewhat take care of ourselves (that’s the way is has worked on my other hunting trips) and that John would show up occasionally to say hi and goodbye. Not the case at all. I didn’t really think about it until my wife asked, but John was with me and in my presence 100% of the time for the entire week with one exception. That exception was when I was in the hunting stand and I was hunting by myself. Now I know that John ran errands while I was in my stand alone hunting. Granted this amounted to probably 6 or 8 hours per day. I know that John went home once or twice while I hunted. I know that John performed all of his baiting chores while I was hunting. He was maintaining my 2 bear baits plus several other baits. He had 4 deer hunters coming in the following week and was taking care of business for them. As I think back though, John was with me 100% of the time when I was not in a stand and hunting. He was there when I went up into the stand and he was there when I came down. At all other times he was present with me. We were together in the vehicle riding to and from camp. We were at camp together (he never left us there alone) and he slept under the same roof ever night we were there. I guess I had not realized the total attention that he was giving us. I had never experienced anything like that before on any of my hunts.
So, why did I book with John in the first place? I booked with John to go hunting and to harvest a bear. I have written about 2 pages and have not mentioned much about the actual hunt. I have mentioned what struck me from the trip and truly impressed me.
However, the hunt was pretty great. I killed my first bear. It took me from Sunday until Thursday at almost sunset. I hunted very hard and followed John’s advice better and better each day. Yes, my skills improved from day to day. John likes to have 2 active bear baits going for each hunter. He had 2 active baits for me. He was particularly excited about the first bait. The bear was larger and had a beautiful white “V” on its chest. I think that was the bear he really wanted me to get. He had game camera pictures from both sites. He had several pictures of the bears. He had logs from every day for the baits noting if the bear had been present at the bait that day. He diligently attended to the baits each and every day. The stands were all comfortable and relatively easy to get to. I am overweight; beat up from playing football 40 years ago and on the plus side of 60 years old. Comfortable stands and easy to get to stands mean a lot more to me now than they did say 15 years ago. John’s stands are top notch.
Within a very short period of time, I knew that John was truly an outdoorsman and a hunter. When you have been around as many hunts and hunters as I have in my lifetime you just know. I knew this fact about John pretty quickly. He loves the outdoors. He loves hunting. What I saw that was truly special is that he loves sharing his paradise. For that I will be eternally grateful. He loves to interact with other hunters like myself. He loves to share the joy of a successful hunt with a stranger like myself. That is very very special. I got lucky and fell into a pretty wonderful situation. I hope John continues to enjoy sharing his paradise with people like me. I hope John never retires (yes I am that selfish). I want to be able to spend a week (or more) with John each year for a very long time.
My brother in law and I have already booked our slot for next fall. My brother in law is going to definitely go bear hunting. He wants to kill his first bear. He may do a combo hunt (bear and deer) or maybe not. Same can be said for me. Maybe bear, maybe deer or maybe both. The important thing to remember here is that we went from a once in a lifetime hunt to rebooking within 4 weeks of our return home. I would give my highest recommendation to John. I am a very hard person to contact on the phone or during work hours (which seem to be about 10 hours a day and more than 5 days per week usually). I get too many emails and long for the simpler days. But, I will say this. Send me an email and let me know that you want some information relative to John Fasquel. I guarantee you that I will make time within a day and probably sooner to respond to your question. If I can reply to your email then I will do that. If you want me to call you then give me your number and some possible times to return your call. I’ll get a call off to you very soon. Whenever I look through my emails and I see anything from or about John then that email gets bubbled to the top and opened first. I can tell you this right up front, you are going to hear only positive remarks from me about John. Simply because positive remarks are all I have to say about John. Sorry the letter is so long, but I really am convicted about some things in life and John is a person that I respect that much. Please enjoy one of his hunts and you will be hooked for life. His rates are very reasonable and are all inclusive. I spent 0 dollars from the last time I gassed up coming into camp until the first time I refilled after leaving camp. My personal email is WallyPetrey@netzero.com and I hope you take my advice and spend a week at John’s Paradise.
Thank You John

John,
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for another unbelievable experience this deer season! I will never forget the great time spent with yourself and my dad paired with the awesome 12 pointer I bagged this year. My father and I have been coming up for deer and bear for about 12 or 13 years now and the comfortable and hospitable atmosphere that you have provided has afforded my dad and I memories that will last a lifetime.
As you know, dad and I recently came back from a "high-fence" whitetail hunt in the western part of the United States. Although the hunt yielded some large bucks I would not call it a complete success. The hunt lacked the hospitality and friendly atmosphere that we have come to know at John's Paradise over the years. In fact, my father and I found ourselves making that comparison while at the other outfitter; saying: "this place doesn't compare to John's." Also, the big bucks that we had harvested cost "$big bucks$"! The value that you provide with your affordable prices is definitely unmatched at any other outfitter that we have used. Your camp is also great because it only allows a small group of friends/family at once as opposed to a great number of unfamiliar hunters. The moral of the story is that this past hunt/experience was 50 times better then our trip out west and about 10 times cheaper!
I look forward to talking to you soon and I can't wait to get my trophy back from the taxidermist.
Your Friend,

This hunt was an absolute blast. Despite a few challenges(mainly mosquitoes), we enjoyed ourselves from start to finish. John works his tail off to make sure you get your game. Fantastic food/accomodations on this hunt. If you live in the Northeastern US and are looking for an affordable bear hunt, John is your man. Just make sure you pack some type of bug protection, and don't assume your Thermacell alone will do the trick. John, we will be back...thanks again!

John's response---- This hunt proved to be very challenging, due to very wet conditions and above normal rainy spring. However; the hunt was successful and I enjoyed having this group at my lodge for the week. I look forward to their return visit.

We had another awesome year up at John's Paradise. From the moment you arrive at camp John makes you feel right at home. The meals and accomodations are second to none. John pulls out all the stops to make sure you are on the bears. He even went so far as to help us get a birthday cake for my father's 50th! Overall, John is a true gentlemen and he does everything he can to make sure his hunters have a good experience and are successful. I would recommend John's Paradise to anyone looking for an affordable hunt at a great camp. Thanks again for everything John.

John's response---- It was indeed a pleasure to have the Coopers back for another hunt at my lodge. This spring was more difficult, due to cool wet weather, but both Greg and his father were successful.

I hope you all are well and having the best of luck for your customers
and yourselves. Buba and I would like to thank you both for our last
two hunts. We had a blast in your woods and company. The
accommodations, Food and Friendship make it something we both look
forward to. We will return to do it again, God Willing. We talked
about the time frame and would like to come a little later in the spring
next year. I think we can handle the BUGS.
Thanks again and look forward to our next visit.

I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for another great year hunting with you. Your efforts paid off as most in camp shot a bear. The food was great and the hunting was better. I am pleased to offer my unsolicited recommendation and would welcome any inquiries. My number is 603 714 4462. Thanks again for letting me handle your 45-90...what a great bear rifle. Please also thank your wife for all of her fine cooking. Top notch hunting camp and outfitter with very limited availability. We book one year in advance otherwise John gets full.
Best rgds

Subject: Great Week
John,
Once again Marty and I had an outstanding time at your lodge, as this was our second trip (with more to come). The fact that we were both successful was the icing on the cake! Your hospitality, great sense of humor and terrific knowledge/experience as a bear guide is second to none. Having said that, you often say that you learn more and more about bear hunting every day and your methods continue to evolve. No doubt your "outside the box" thinking made my trip a success as I bagged a 235 pound bruin at 1155 am on the third day of the hunt. How many guides would suggest that a hunter go out to the stand between breakfast and lunch?
Also, with four hunters in camp, your son-in-law Jeremy was once again an outstanding assistant which continues to make your operation a tremendous success. I think you have an excellent future guide in the making. And finally the food.....wow! I know I gained at least 10 pounds in the week. While you do all the cooking, we all know who does the leg work, ha ha (Thanks Mrs. Fasquel)!!
Thanks again for a wonderful experience and a much needed break from the daily stress of the job! Please feel free to use me as a reference any time.

John,
I wanted to take a few minutes to thank you for the wonderful time you showed us in May. I’m still so excited about getting my first bear. But, there is more to thank you for. After getting my bear, on only the second day, you continued to educate me on the tactics of bear hunting, and a little trapping too. I felt a little guilty tapping into your knowledge of the sport, while eating all that great food and your wife’s fantastic desserts. Thanks for all the time you spent reading the bear habits and working the sites, it’s no wonder I was successful. I’m still a little sore about you kicking my butt in Cribbage, but I’m coming back in May and I’ll be ready for some revenge. You are a true gentleman, but I would expect nothing less from a Canadian Mountie.
It was my honor to meet you,

John,
I would like to take this time to thank you and Jeremy for a fine time we (my two nephews) had at John’s Paradise. Even though I was the only one that got a bear (that’s hunting), we all were pleased with the way you moved us to different active bait sites in an effort for us to get a bear. Your facility there is a top notch operation. It was just like you advertised – with no short cuts. I truly would refer your outfitting service to anyone who is looking for a great hunting experience with a quality service. We plan to return to John’s Paradise for another great hunting experience.
Thanks Again

This was the third year booking with John, and I have been successful every year, and we are already booked again for 2010. It just gets better every year with John. This year we saw bear every night on stand, sometimes several bears with the action starting hours before dark. In fact, saw one nice boar that I passed 10 minutes after John left me at the site! Since we had taken bears every year with John, my hunting buddy and I passed on bears all week long looking for the more mature boars, lost count but we saw well over 20 bears in 5 days. On the last night we both harvested quality boars 5 minutes apart even though we were almost 25 miles from each other.
John has a small, quality, operation, and he runs a very tight ship all the way around. We were the only two in camp. (a 2X1 hunt) This I like the most since I do not enjoy being in camp with 20 guys and 5 guides. Just not what I'm looking for. The week is relaxing, very low pressure, and John does the advance work, has access to truly untapped bear numbers and established sites that produce. His equipment is impeccably maintained and of excellent quality. He books low numbers a year, and as long as he continues to cater to just a few hunters a season, the quality will continue to come up. John hints at retirement in 2 years... not if we can help it!
See Full report and details on www.bowsite.com report HERE
John's response---- Thanks Bill for the most favourable comments. It has been another good spring bear hunt at John's Paradise with a 66% success rate and I credit the success with staying with small groups of hunters. I look forward to Bill and his friend John returning for another hunt next year.

Dear John,
Thanks for having us. Brian and I both had a great time. I appreciate your uncompromising
committment to doing things the right way. Everything was first class including the food,
accommodations, ATVs, baits, stands, and your hospitality.
What surprised me the most(and it was a pleasant surprise) was the number of baits
you had and the amount of land you had access to. You own 500 acres, but you must
have access to thousands of acres.
It's obvious that you love what you do, and you are very good at it. We both got our
bear and we look forward to coming back.

This bear hunt was the best I have ever been on, and I have been on a few.
John goes out of his way to make sure you are well fed and comfortable. He
has a modern lodge and baits that are hit nightly. We saw bear every night and
I am definitely going back next spring to get another bear.

Hi John !
Finally some time to get a note of gratitude out to you and your wife for the deserts! I can't even begin to tell you how gratifing our hunt was, from the meals, to the chats, to the hunts. It was more than any of us expected! I gave your name out to a couple of people, I don't know if they contacted you or not. Dear John,
I recently realized that my brother Paul and I have been coming to your camp for a decade.
We've taken some nice deer over the years and always had a good time. You do every-
thing right. The tree stands are comfortable and active. The food and accommodations
are first class.
I started this year off with a bang by winning the New Brunswick Moose lottery and fifteen
minutes into the season you put me on to a trophy moose. With a live weight of 1050 lbs.,
15 points and a 40 inch spread this was one impressive moose. You got that moose
out of a bog pretty much by yourself, quickly and efficiently. Your pre-season scouting
paid off big time for my brother and me.
Paul and I are now looking forward to deer season. With plenty of meat in the freezer
we will try to hold out for one of those 250 lb. monster bucks that hang out on your
500 acres. Thanks for running such a professional operation. We will see you in
November.

ps. John & Paul both tagged out on the first day of their Deer hunt, with John getting
an 8 pointer and Paul a 10 pointer that weighted 180 lbs.

Subject: Hunting Trip
Hi John,
I just wanted to thank you for all your hard work this year. This was one of the best vacations I have had in a long time. My goal was to take my first bear and you made it possible with your dedication to your clients. Although I didn’t shoot a whitetail, the time I set in the stands was relaxing and took me away from my everyday job of listening to everyone else’s problems (911 Dispatcher). I look forward to going back next year. I’ll send you my $540.00 in February.
I brought my bear to the taxidermist and it is going to cost me $600.00 for a shoulder mount. Did anyone have any luck this week for whitetail?
P.S. The “Dump Bear” is still full with all of your outstanding cooking!! My wife needs a few lessons!!

www.bowsite.com - hunters report & comments - May 2007
John runs a first class, tight ship. He has the bears in his area thanks to a huge provincial park that borders next to his hunting area that is off limits to hunting! John is on top of every aspect of the hunt. I saw several bears and one whopper. Lodge is clean and comfortable with the meals being great. Very limited numbers taken on the hunt, only 4 a week in camp, but only a handful a year actually book. In 2007 I think there were only four for the whole spring season. I am already booked for next year and did so during the hunt before I even harvested a bear. I have several friends fighting it out for the other three spots that week, that want to go along. Thanks for a great hunt John! - William Magagna, Pennsylvania
Hunter's evaluation - I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS OUTFITTER
John's response---- appreciate the comments of Mr. Magagna. While there are no guarantees, I do my best to make their hunt as successful as possible. I just had 3 fall bear hunters at camp and they shot 3 bear, a excellent hunt and some very happy hunters, who are returning in the fall of 2009. I now have 3 weeks booked for the 2008 spring bear hunt, so if interested call now.

Dear John,
Thanks again for another great week of hunting. Rarely, in just five days, can a hunter bag a bear, a buck, and still have plenty of time to go partridge hunting. And to think that this is the second year in a row that this has
happened to me! Of course this could not be possible if not for all of your hard work.
I am amazed at your ability to provide us with very comfortable surroundings, great home-cooked meals, and opportunities to see and harvest game. I enjoy knowing I will only be placed in stands that are active, as this has not always been my experience with other outfiffers and guides.
Also, thank you for providing top of the line ATV's for our use in retrieving downed game, accessing more remote areas, and touring the area once our tags were filled. These invaluable tools further enhanced our hunting experience.
We are more than happy with all aspects of your outfit and excited about next year. Keep up the good work!
Thank you and see you next year,

John's Paradise
Dear John,
Thank you for another fine New Brunswick adventure. Hunting with you is always a pleasure, one that seems to improve each season. It is hard to believe that this is the seventh year in a row that my brother and I have enjoyed your first class food and accommodations.
Whatever you do, don't change anything, as things could not be better. Having almost 500 acres all to ourselves during deer season is truly paradise. We especially enjoy the freedom to hunt any way we like: whether it's still hunting, rattling, or riding one of your ATV's to a "condo" (our nickname for some of your
more comfortable tree stands). The 195 lb. ten point buck that I shot this year, my first non-typical ever, is just icing on the cake.
I really hate writing you letters of recommendation. Your hunts are so special; I would like to keep them a secret. Thanks again and plan on Paul and me hunting with you for as long as you'll let us.

The following letter was written by a satisfied customer after his FOURTH visit to our
Lodge.
"Dear John,
I want to thank you once again for your hard work and wonderful hospitality at your fine
lodge.
Our group had a wonderful hunt, as usual, we were very successful as far as bear hunts are
concerned. We had seven sightings, three haravested, one missed and only one hunter
did not see a bear, it doens't get much better than that.
This was under adverse conditions, extremely windy and heavy rains do not make for a
comfortable hunt, yet you were still able to keep these sights active. One can
only imagine what the results may have been in good weather conditions.
Your menu is second to none, I know that I gained five pounds in only four days, as usual
I had to leave early.
I am looking forward to next spring already, but I am excited about your newly organized
winter rabbit hunts. I'm sure that you will do well with that also.
Sincerely,
John Neal

I have hunted with John Fasquel for four years now, four Fall deer hunts, plus a Spring
bear hunt.
I have taken 3 deer and 1 bear with him. I enjoy having undisturbed and quiet
surroundings to hunt in. John is an honest and hard working guide who's first concern is his clients safety and enjoyment. The accommodations are pleasant, the food is good and there has always been a variety of
wildlife to enjoy. Deer, bear, partridge and rabbit are often seen. Partridge
hunting has been good and fishing is sometimes available. Just walking or 4-wheeling
the many trails is pleasant and relaxing. I enjoy how his camp is situated in the
center of his property. I think you would too.
